I tried first reregistering and then after that I tried reinstalling.
Unfortunately had no luck. Now desperate! System has really slowed down, and
get lots of 'not responding' in task manager.
Anyone help?

Have you checked for virus/malware problems recently?
Might be a good idea to check to see if the system is clean.

I have now hopefully fixed the proble. Kaspersky was running , presumably in
the background and I think conflicting with Virgin PCGuard. I downloaded a
new free version of Kaspersky 7 which detected the old version 5 and deleted
it. Then I uninstalled K 7 , rebooted, ran a scan and clean up and then ran
XP detect and repair...I'm happy to say that it worked and it seems to be
working much better.
