I'm BACK! Not really a photo question, but I don't know who else to ask. On Almost all of the art (I paid to download) there is a, (for lack of a better term,) 'white stamp' that the art 'sits' on. If I want to use the art on a card, for instance, with a colored background, or add it to other stuff, it can't be used because that white backing is always there. Is there a way to get rid of that thing? Also, does some art come so that you can't remove that white backing at all? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Great ideas--no way to use em

What format are these clips in?

For example...if you download clips from the
Microsoft Design Gallery...they are in a format
that preserves the transparency.

If you have a digital image editing program you
can create a cutout and remove the unwanted
white background. To save the transparency...save
the cutout in the .gif format.

If you have a Paint program, you can remove the white area. This is a tutorial from
Corel, you probably will have similar tools in your application.

Most of mine are gif type. but i think i have about all the common ones ie. gif, jpeg, wmf, eps, psd. I get most of them from clipart.com, and american greetings creatacard program art, and expressit, million image art, printmaster express, afterburner cd label program.hardly any of the art in these are without the white thing. i tried advanced draw and it likes metafiles the best, and doesn't support gif. i don't know how to/or if i can change a file type.WHY do they sell their art this way? You can't be very creative with it.Just thought someone might know the answer, cause that has puzzeled me from the start
Again, So many Thanks to Al

I wish I could show you how, even Paint has a transparency tool for your .gif images.
Formats such as jpg & bmp do not support transparency. In a good Paint program you
can manipulate images different ways to rid the images of the white box.
Download www.irfanview.com it will at least set transparency for your gifs. It is
free. Get the plug-in's too.
WMF & eps files are vectors, they will not have a white box,  if they do you can
ungroup them and delete it.
In most programs you can "save as" and you will be given options about formats.
