I made a picture and video CD on a CD-R audio CD. (was that wrong?) and now,
I want to get the files off of the CD and back onto my PC.  The CD revvs, and
a (D:) window comes up, showing that the files are there, however, I can't
copy any of them to my PC.  The CD just keeps revving and revving, but
nothing gets accomplished. I tried the CD in other computers and it always
does the same thing. How can I get my precious pictures back??

A video cd, or vcd for short is a movie cd, not a data cd. So, it does not
contain the pictures in their original format, ie jpeg/bitmap or whatever,
but as a mpeg1 movie format. To get the pictures back you can try importing
the mpeg1 file into movie maker, if it works, you can grab a frame of video
on each different picture, thereby getting pictures back. They will be
HEAVILY compressed, so no good for printing out.
If MM does not accept the mpeg1 file then you will have to convert it to an
avi, try tmpgenc and then import this into MM.
If you want to keep photos for future re-use it's best to just drag and drop
them onto the cd, do not close it and keep adding them until it's full,
close the cd and you'll have 100's of pictures for reuse.
