DLA ?

I have Sonic; should I have DLA enabled?

When I run a crash test analysis I get the message:

tfsnifs.sys   1.04.08a
TFS Technology
'may require driver application or update'

I already (recently) updated sonic via instrutions from my Dell support
centre tool yet I still get this message.

My concern is that about a year ago I saved a bunch of photos to a cd and
they all went corrupt; both on my cd and my hard drive. So before I go saving
any more pics I want to make sure I'm doing this right.

I should add; that I have saved pics prior to the ones going corrupt without
any issues.

DLA enabled ?? Could this be the problem? Don't know much about it.
(Using Windows XP home edition).

Thanks!

DLA means Drive Letter Access.  It allows you to reference CD/DVD drives by
drive letter.
It is most unlikely that DLA caused your problem.
Doesn't Sonic install DLA?

Thanks Jim

Well I thought I knew what I was doing when copying pics to a CD. Since they
went corrupt; I'm nervouse to copy any. I want to back up my photos to a CD.
I have DLA enabled it came with Sonic. Am I suppose to format ? I'm getting
confused. Or should I just copy to CD as I always did? I won't use the XP
feature; as someone pointed out here on another copy question that XP might
have been what corrupted the pics.

Thanks

LisaB:

All formatting does to a CD is create a label for the disc.  I use Roxio
(which is also a Sonic product), and it will assign a label if
the disc needs it.  Does this product feature the drag and drop method of
copying?

I have no idea how your files became corrupt.  I do tend to believe that
there is something about the hardware in your computer that is faulty.
Copying files from one place to another should not corrupt both places.
If I were you I would first open the images that you wish to copy to the CD
in my photo editor.  I would save the images to a different directory with a
different name.
Then, once the new directory is populated, I would copy the images in the
new directory to the CD.

Thanks Jim. I will make a copy first. Someone else had mentioned before that
Memorex dics sometimes corrupt pics. That is what I used; I am now using a
Sony disc.

I have used Memorex and Sony as well.  They don't last.  I now use Verbatim.

I'll try that brand.
When I insert the corrupt Cd it won't even open and it makes a strange
sound. All the other Cds open fine.

Thanks

In general the problems occur when you use some specific makes of discs
with one specific drive. Other people using the same sort of drive might
have no problems with the same brand of disc.

You may be lucky and find a combination that works for you, but in the
long run you may find that a newer drive fixes the problem. They are
quite inexpensive these days, and relatively simple to fit. Find a local
nerd if the word "jumper" makes you think of wooly garments :-)
