Sending & Receiving Faxes.
Thank you Mike, but I have connected the analogue modem to phone socket
with a filter inbetween, I have managed to send a fax, but it does not
recognise an incoming fax, although the modem rings. DSL modem is
connected to the main phone socket through what I think is a filter,
small box lead from wi-fi box plugs in to it & that then plugs in to
phone socket, but its how the instructions told me to do it, I'm in
France so it's a French phone socket. It seems that when I plug in the
analogue modem it takes over from the DSL & I lose DSL connection.

Is your modem French? When I moved from the UK to Spain, I had problems with
the telephone connections because Spanish telephones, while they use the
same RJ11 plugs, are wired differently to the UK.. I messed with the cables
because I was too cheap to go buy a modem that would connect properly
through a Spanish cable..
If your DSL and analogue modem are running from the same jack through a '2
into 1' adapter, ensure that the '2 into 1' is plugged directly into the
wall socket, and the DSL line is plugged into one side of the adapter
directly.. the other socket should have a filter in it, and the analogue
modem connected to the filter..

Mike.
Modem/wi-fi box & both telephones are french so should not be a
problem, but yes French phone points are different to UK ones.
The DSL modem is plugged in to one phone socket along with a telephone
the analogue modem is plugged in to another phone socket via a filter
in a different room where the computer is with another telephone, but
both on the same phone number.

Some of the european phone systems have or had a "security" feature, in that
picking up one phone will disconnect other phone(s) on the same line. This
was the case in Germany, I don't know about France. There were some other
oddities in Germany-- for instance an american standard 300bd modem would
work from a residential line, but a German standard one would not, unless
you paid extra.

I really don't know what else to try, think I give up & will resig
myself to the fact that I will only connect the analogue modem if
need to use the fax, maybe in France you just can't use DSL & analogu
on the same phone line!!!
