I have enabled the internal fax program and have double
checked configuration...but faxes do not send...I have
tried using the modem phone number (line is dedicated to
dial-up only)as my "fax number" and I have tried using my
other line as my "fax number" in set-up, which is
dedicated to a phone/fax machine...get "no dial tone"
either way...additionally, is the "fax" supposed to be
sent over the internet (like e-mail) or, as I assume, is
a phone connection supposed to be established and the fax
initiated just as if sending a fax manually?? Finally,
do I need to install a separate fax modem or do I need to
have the internet connection turned off??
any suggestions?
thanks

Like all fax software, Windows XP Fax uses only an analog phone line and an
analog fax modem, not the Internet. Your modem cannot be in use when you try
to send a fax. The phone number you type into the configuration is
irrelevant. The telephone company assigns your phone number.
