My XP client machines print through a WINNT 4.0 print
server - once they are set up everything is just fine.
The problem is adding printer to them - it can take 2 - 3
minutes after a network printer is selected until the
printer is actually added.  My Win98 clients add printers
within 1 or 2 seconds.  I have tried setting up a win2000
print server to test with the same results.

Thanks,

Dave

When connecting to a server, the drivers get downloaded from the server.
Win9x clients have different drivers than NT4/W2k and some printer drivers
are humungous. Conceivably the printers you have just have smallish Win9x
drivers and big W2k drivers ?

Thanks for your input - I had thought of that, but
sometimes the same printer on the same XP workstation
will take 15 seconds and sometimes it will take 2 - 3
minutes.  Also, when I try adding another printer to an
XP workstation that already has a printer installed that
uses the same driver it can take 2- 3 minutes sometimes.
