Hello,
I'm trying for some hours now to connect to a computer running Window
XP Pro without any success:
- I have a Dell Precision 360 PC with preinstalled Windows XP Pro. Th
system is nearly "as delivered" without many additional installations
Neither has it been used for some time.
- I activated remote desktop access under "System/Remote" as describe
in the help files and other documentations.
- The XP built-in firewall is disabled.
- The systems are on the same local network 10.0.1.x and are able t
communicate (sharing files works for example).
BUT
- I can't connect to this PC using Remote Desktop Client on Win2K ode
Mac.
I have allready read EVERY ;-) hint and documentation the internet ha
to offer on this topic but all I found until now, is that I only hav
to enable remote desktop connections in "System/remote" ... as I did.
I have no ideas any more what to try next.
Please: Does anyone have any idea which obscure setting on the X
machine may prevent the whole thing from working???
Thanks,
Dir

Any error message when you try to connect? Are you trying to connect using an IP or NetBIOS name?

Did you install the client portion that allows you to
connect to an XP machine from older OS'?

Hello,

The error message was not very helpul. Something like "the client could
not connect to the host. This could have two reasons..."
> Are you trying to connect using an IP or NetBIOS name?
I tried both and neither worked.
In the meantime I found the solution. It was a misconfiguration in my
DHCP server. As a result the host I tried to connect to had a different
IP than I expected.
Strange though that the connection to the shared files on the host
worked.
Sory for the trouble,
