I have a remote user that is using offline file
synchronization.  His files were not synchronizing to the
server.  In the process of trying to get his files
synchronized we lost the server connection to the share.
Now, we have outdated files on the server and the files
on his PC are missing.  They show in his recent documents
as shortcuts to the drive but the drive is missing.  Is
there anyway to recover these files from some sort of
cache or hidden temporary location.  This is three months
of proposals and because the PC was not synchrozized it
is not backed up on the server.

Have you tried re-syncing the files?  This should work (at least I
have never lost files while losing a network connection during a
sync)...
