Computer Description

I am unable to enter a Computer Desciption on my laptop (Start>Control
Panel>System>Computer Name).  I can enter a Full Computer Name and a
Workgroup by clicking on the "change" box but I do not have the ability to
enter a Computer Description and am unable to see the laptop in my workgroup.
Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Can you get to it by IP?
Is its firewall properly configured for network sharing?
