I recently upgraded my machine to XP Pro SP2. One of my roles requires Remote
Desktop connections to various servers and workstations. I find it very
frustrating that I can no longer use the /CONSOLE switch when addressing a
server, now that I am using the RDP native to XP. Is there a way to address
this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Windows 2003 Remote Desktop Client instead?
You can replace your XP one with it.

Where can I download the Remote Desktop Connection 5.2 software (the Windows
Server 2003 TS client)?

Where did you get that idea? I'm using version 5.1 and console option works
just fine.

Just to clarify, the '/console" switch only works when connecting to a
2003 server.  It does NOT work on 2000 or XP.  Somebody please prove
me wrong.  ; )

Replace "Z" with "L"

It's not that it doesn't work on xp, it's that you are *always* conencting to
the console when you conenct to xp pro. Your session ID is always 0.

If you refer to controlling a 2003 server, check your command line syntax
that invokes mstsc.exe.

I downloaded the 5,2 version of RDP. This works fine with the console switch.
However, the shortcuts that I have (which are centrally accessible by
everyone in my team) to the servers, invoke the OLD (5.1) version of RDP
which doesn't accept the /CONSOLE switch. This is getting very frustrating!

So change your shortcuts/create new ones using 5.2.
It's under Program Files - not in System32.
