Remote assitance

Recently bought a new computer tryed doing remote assitance tonight and keep
gettin this error message

Ale[x]- wants to use the Remote Assistance feature with you, but you need to
update your version of Windows Messenger first. Please go to the Windows
Messenger update site to install the latest version.

ive gone to the website..   downloaded stuff but its still not working..
tryed it with my firewall off and it still doesnt work.. any idea's?

i went to the website that windows live messenger told me to go to.

Is there anyway that when you buy a new computer.. Remote asstiance is not
installed propley?
