My Mom sends the request via Messnger and I accept, then I get a pup saying
trying to connect, it looks like it is trying but never does, do not get an
error message just sits there trying to connect. Had mom turn off firewall
and we tried it again, same thing....

We had a case like this. Make sure the Remote Assistance is enabled or Both
Messengers may be different version. Or check this post.

Remote Assistance connection ...Remote Assistance connection disconnected.

Thank you but I did check to make sure the settings were correct for remote
assistance and we both downloaded the latest version of Messenger. The only
difference I know of is Mom has XP Home Edition and I have the XP Media
Edition. I finally did get a 'connection timed out' message.
