Why is there no option to shutdown the PC when I remote desktop a Windows XP
machine?  I can only disconnect or log off.

- CTRL+ALT+END (instead of CTRL+ALT+DEL)
- Start --> RUN --> shutdown -i --> OK
 (your machine is 127.0.0.1)

You should be able to shutdown the computer by running Task Manager on the
remote computer.

From the local computer, hit Ctrl + Alt + End. Note: You can also right click on
the taskbar of the remote computer to launch Task Manager. In Task Manager,
click on Shut Down in the menu bar and select Turn off from the menu. You'll get
a warning about someone having to restart the remote computer.

Good luck

i do not see Shut Down in the menu bar of task manager but the other tips
offered in this thread have helped so I think I am all set.
