I called Microsoft pre-sales and was told that my customer could use RWW to
connect to client desktops in a workgroup environment. (The 2003SBS server
was configured during the OS installation as in a new domain.) After about 4
hours of paid support from Microsoft, they said that Connect to Client
Desktops is not available unless the client becomes part of the domain. My
customer has a mix of XP Home, XP Pro, Vista Business and Vista Home Premium
desktops/laptops so forcing a domain on them is not an option. Also, the
server is used only as a file server - no Exchange, Fax or Web hosting. We
need the server product because they are hiring their 11th employee very
soon, breaking the 10 connection limit of their current XP Pro file server.

If I demote (dcpromo) the server to a workgroup computer, can we use RWW to
connect to client desktops that are part of the workgroup?

Many thanks for your time.

1. You should promo the SBS as domain for more connections.
2. For the Home edition OS, you may want to use RDC over VPN.
TS over VPN
To use TS over VPN, normally you need to establish VPN using the VPN
username and password first. Then logon TS manually. With Microsoft CMAK,
you can ...
