I have just upgraded from ME to XP. What an experience!
Anyway, now, when I try to go online, I get a 60-second
closedown message which I understand is probably caused by
MSBlaster.

I need to download the security patch & msblaster removal
toolkit from Microsoft. Since I can't get online from my
XP system, I can only get online through my laptop which
runs 98.

When I try to download the security patch, the MSwebsite
checks my laptop, sees I'm running 98, and as far as I can
see won't allow me to download the security patch or
MSblaster removal tool for XP.

Any ideas?

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary
updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and
enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins.  This will abort the shut
down.  Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to
preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.
