I would like to add a wireless router to my existing wired home network, so I
can use my laptop (from work) anywhere in the house.  I'm concerned about
security: I've bought a wireless router that has WPA and MAC filtering etc.
ALl PC's will have software Firewalls.

I only want to use the internet (VPN) to connect to my work network.  I
think it will be more secure to connect the wireless Belkin router to my
existing Linksys router via a LAN port, than to just replace the existing
router with a wireless router and connect the the wired pc's to the wireless
router's LAN ports.

Will the first router also act as a firewall to keep wireless intruders out
of the wired network (assuming I don't allow file and resource sharing)?

the wireless is a different access point.  It will not protect your local
network unless its the first device your broadband is connected to.

to secure your wireless u need to turn your SSID broadcast off, change the
default SSID name, use WPA2 encryption, update your routers(s) firmware, turn
on mac address filters and firewalls.  Also make sure you key that you use
for WAP is long and uses numbers letters and characters.

to secure your lan you need to use either your existing router, or the
linksys router as the gateway for your network.
