Having problems with a folder with password

I had i virus in my computer that corrupt me a lot of my system files.
Now I can't access to "my files" folder because I had a password as the
Administrator and it doesn't give access to it.
How can I get to reach all the important files I had save in that folder.

Is the computer clean now and functioning correctly? If not, post back
with more details. Otherwise, take ownership of the files:

If you are unable to take ownership, as long as the data was not
encrypted using EPS you can boot with Knoppix and retrieve the data
that way.

Knoppix is a Linux distro on a live cd. You will need a computer with
two cd drives, one of which is a cd/dvd-rw OR a usb thumb drive with
enough capacity to hold your data. To get Knoppix, you need a computer
with a fast Internet connection and third-party burning software.
Download the Knoppix .iso from www.knoppix.net and create your bootable
cd. Then boot with it and it will be able to see the Windows files. If
you are using the usb thumb drive, right-click on its icon (on the
Desktop) to get its properties and uncheck the box that says "Read
Only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the default mouse action
in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a single click to open
instead of the traditional MS Windows' double-click. Otherwise, use the
K3b burning program to burn the files to cd/dvd-r's.

Looking for information on how to get into the

Desktop subdirectory on a hard disk drive (hdd)

plugged in to a USB port. Its the hdd from my 3

year old powerspec pentium4 box whose mother-of-

all-boards blew out; microCenter support determined

that the drive was operational. WindowsXP resided

on this drive. I salvaged the drive, but since the

subdirectory, c:/documents and settings/Edward

Richardson/Desktop, is 'secured' somehow under the

Edward Richardson login for that hdd, I can't open

the subdirectory.

Using a dos window to get to the directory also

gives me an 'access is denied' message.

Is there a way I can turn off the permissions or

security on the subdirectory so that it is openly

accessible?

Not sure if the procedure that requires logging on

in safe mode is relevant because files I want are

not on the drive where the opeational version of

Windows resides (ie., the new hdd in the new compaq

presario box.

Since you hijacked the OP's post, follow the suggestions that were given
to him; i.e, either attach the drive to a working XP box and take
ownership of the files or attach the drive to a working computer and
boot with Knoppix to retrieve the data.
