None of the links you provided help me in any way. I have SP2 and all the
updates.
The locked out account does not appear in the control panel or the logon
screen.
Format it is then. It will take me a month to reinstall all programs and
plugins.
Thanks anyway.

Try booting into safe mode and then try logging on as administrator and if
you can access the account properties for the locked out account and uncheck
that the account is locked out. To find which users are local administrators
run the command net localgroup administrators. If nothing seems to help you
could try putting the hard drive in another computer or boot from something
like Bart's PE and copy the sam file from the windows\repair folder to the
windows\system32\config folder though I suggest you rename the sam file in
the windows\system32\config folder first. If that works you may have a
different password in the sam file you copied over since it may be the one
from the original installation of the operating system though there are
tools that can reset the administrator password if you forgot it and I think
the same tool may have an option to unlock locked accounts though I am not
positive as I have not used it for a while. See the links below if you are
interested in trying that. --- Steve

I did access the account properties, and in fact I pasted them in my first
post. The account is not "disabled", and also it is not a password issue
since I'm llogged as the "Administrator", and can change the account password
with "net user password".
I just want the user to show up in the usual places, so that I can log in
with that user and resume my work with that users settings.
Besides if I lost my password, I have two other instalations of windows, one
is 64 bit. which protect me from file loss in the event such as this where I
have to reinstall.
Thanks Steven.

I never use Control Panel to manage users. The few times I did try it
sometimes it would take 10 seconds or so for all users to show up there. I
use lusrmgr.msc [or right click My Computer/manage - local users and groups]
to mange users and groups and have to use control-alt-delete to logon and
enter the user name since my computers are part of my Active Directory
domain. I can not do user switching since my computer is part of a domain
so I may be missing something here. In case this is the built in
administrator account I would check the security option for
accounts:administrator account status and make sure it is set to enabled and
not disabled or not defined. Use secpol.msc to open Local Security policy
and go to local policies/security options to see and configure security
options. --- Steve

Have you checked the Properties of the user account?
Go to Start -> Run and enter lusrmgmt.msc in the Open box.
Click OK.
Open the Users folder.
See if the account in question has been disabled.

Not oly have i checked the Properties for the account, I have captured the
text and pasted it in my first post.
The account "doesn't seem" to be disabled by looking at user properties...
thanks, nepasfan.

Correction to my earlier response:
Have you checked the Properties of the user account?
Go to Start -> Run and enter lusrmgr.msc in the Open box.
Click OK.
Open the Users folder.
See if the account in question has been disabled.
Sorry for the confusion. Also, you might want to take a look in
Local Security Policy for a setting within the Local
Settings/Password Policies that may be casusing this behavior.
