Last night my computer was working fine. Today I turned it on and the monitor is all screwed up. The "Pincusion" is squeezed in on the sides and the Horizontal Size is pulled in so that the display is only 2/3 of the original size. I ran Norton Anti Virus (current definitions) and it says I'm clean. I've also got the router firewall up, Norton Worm protection on, Spyware Blaster and Adaware on. The last thing I was doing was searching for information on snakes on the internet (helping my son with a research paper). A couple of sites were a little strange and seemed to load funny but I didn't think anything of it at the time. If anyone has any ideas of what caused this problem with my monitor and how to fix it, I would be VERY grateful. Thank you. --- MacKenrick How old is the monitor? There is no virus that can cause hardware damage to a monitor.Hardware can fail at any time. What happens when you use the positioning, sizing, and shaping controls on the front of the monitor? What happens when you re-install the latest WinXP-specific drivers for your video adapter from its manufacturer's web site? Have you tried a different monitor? Especially in this case when the failure occurred when it was turned on (the most likely time for a hardware failure is turn-on ... applies to men also ;-) ) mikey Thanks for all the replies. I had tried readjusting the pincusion, etc. using the controls on the front of the monitor but they had no effect... not functioning at all. I couldn't change any of the settings. I was able to connect to the internet and post this question but I was afraid of doing anything else for fear of making it harder to recover the computer in case it was some kind of virus. After reading some of these replies, I got brave enough to do some poking around and checked the monitor settings. For some reason the refresh rate had changed from 85 to 60. I don't know what difference that makes with the pincusion of the monitor but when I changed it back to 85, the monitor returned to almost normal. I had to readjust the overall display size a little and recenter it but it works fine now. Very strange... can't figure it out. It was fine when I turned it off and screwed up when I turn it on. So i formatted my drive, when i was reinstalling winxp home my screen resolution also resized to 2/3 of the normal size. Now i have it set to maximum size but i lost a few millimeters... > Thanks for all the replies.
