Windows Defender won't install

I have successfully installed Windows Defender on my laptop, but it won't
install on my desktop computer. It comes up with all sorts of silly error
messages, such as some drive is invalid or there is an invalid character in
some folder. This message comes up very quickly, such that it seems that it
shouldn't have had time to find the discrepancy.

Is this program worth the trouble, or should I be happy that it won't install?

Please post in one of the newsgroups specifically set up for the Windows
Defender program. This is not one of them.
