Does anyone have any experience with ad-aware 2008 pro.I like the idea of
real time spyware blocking but I don't think it would be a good idea to have
a second antivirus program on a computer.

I personally don't. Since I don't install adware, I also feel no need
for anti-stuff. It's no secret however, that previous versions of
ad-aware were proven crap from a security standpoint. I see no reason
to believe why that would suddenly have changed.

Sounds like a good idea. But what led you to believe that anti-crap of
some sort would be the proper counter-measure. Marketing?

Probably not. Many machines are so crippled by anti-crap that normal
things no longer work and performance is horrible.

Better look into how the unwanted stuff gets on to your machine in the
first place and take it from there.
