sp2 problems

i am running windows XP Pro sp1 on my family's computer, and when i install
sp2 from either windows update or a cd (without problems), my computer's
monitor kind of  switches itself off. the screen goes black just before the
login screen loads up (the monitor light instead of being green changes
colour as if there's no power).

i thought this might be because of a graphics card problem, but i've
installed the latest drivers before tryin to install SP2 again, but to no
avail. there are no viruses, no spyware and i've defragged, removes temp
files etc, but this doesnt make any difference.

i'd be really grateful for any relevant help i recieve.

Thanks in advance,  Rob

Rob,

you could look through http://winhlp.com/WxSP2.htm for hints.
