I need to format an old hard drive but my computer can't see it.  I can't set
it up as drive g: and do it that way.  I can't usr a boot disk or even my
original xp startup disk.

Does bios see it?

My question is, what can I do to overcome this problem?

If the bios cannot see it, presumably you are using autodetect.
Try visiting HD manu and getting actual parameters of drive, then try to set
it up manually in the bios.
If that doesnt work then I dont believe there is anything you can do.

If installed to the origonal sys, canit be detected?
If so use the HD manu checking utility, downloaded from their site, to check
it.
If all OK then format the disk in Disk Management, not from any command
line.
