I upgraded most of my computers components. I upgraded to a new SATA
hardrive and new motherboard. When I boot from my win xp retail disc it
loads al the drivers and things at the beggining but after a I accept the
liscense agreement it prompts for me to insert the windows xp cd which is
already in the drive. after pressing enter it checks and responds that it
cannot read the cd or it is not a windows cd.
I then tried it another computer and it installed the install files
ont the harddrive. So I took out that cd drive and installed it in my new
computer. I got the same error message. So it is not the cd or the
diskdrive. What could be wrong?
Also I was able to use the original cddrive to update the bios on
the motherboard.

Are you really being prompted to insert the Windows CD are are you being
told to insert the floppy with the SATA drivers into the floppy drive?

No, It asks me to insert a valid windows install disc and then lists xp
through 3.5.
