After upgrade & auto restart, message; FAT 32
Checking consistency file system on C: (293E-15FE)
\Windows\dumpf6c3.tmp cross linked on allocation unit 985568...
Windows allocated files.
The computer then went into a loop: Restart >Windows XP start screen >
checking file system on C: Restart > etc.
I let the loop run approx 9 times - shut down computer.
Pressed f8 to try & start in safe mode, in one of the loops, (it was ignored).
Need help urgently!

Sounds like possibly hardware issues with the hard drive - which is possible
because Windows 98 wasn't as thorough as XP is about hardware issues.

Restore to the backup you made before attempting the upgrade.

Shenan,
I did not make a copy of my drive, I just copied my files etc.
Is there any way to get out of the loop- delete XP & go back to W98

Boot with a Windows 98 boot disk(ette) and use FDISK to delete the
partitioning and create new partitioning and format and start the
installation of Windows 98.
