When my father died, we gave his PC to my daughter. The Documents and Setting
folder has a subfolder named for him, i.e., documents and settings\grandpa\*.
We want to rename it all references to him to our daughter, i.e., documents
and settings\grandaughter\*.
I saw Carey Frisch's suggestion to use Change the Computer's Registered
Owner in Windows XP, http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_change_owner.htm.
We also saw Brian Conner's suggestion to use
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, Option 7 on the right.
Will either of these change these entries as we wish throughout the
registry, or am I stuck with wiping the harddrive and starting over?

Thank you.

Firstly,
   http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_change_owner.htm

This will change the registered owner of the computer.  This is shown in the
properties of 'My Computer'.  Many new software installers pick-up the
registered owner from here.

The folders you are referring to are a different story.  Basically the
easiest way to wipe out the old references and make new ones is to create a
new user in the 'User Accounts' control panel and delete the old one.
Please note that you will have to log-in to the new account to delete the
old.  You may find that some settings and Start-Menu entries are lost by
doing this.

You can change just the name of the account (from the same place) but this
will not change the folder names.

I'm so glad Microsoft made such an obvious need such an awful task.
Thanks.
