Hi,
Currently running SP1 with all the patches and all is running fine.  When
I try to upgrade to SP2, the system continually restarts due to a 'device not
functioning'.  Taking out the restart on system failure option only leads to
a blue (crash) screen.  Several attempts later, I find the reason for this is
that SP2 has compatiblity problems with my UMAX Astra 1200S scanner. I had a
similar problem with that scanner initially but was able to buy a new set of
drivers and Vistascan program.  Do you know of a fix for this scenario, or am
I stuck with buying a new scanner and or drivers (if they exist).

If you uninstall the scanner prior to the upgrade, does everything work
correctly?

You did disconnect everything not needed for the upgrade before proceeding
didn't you?
You did search for SP2 compatible drivers for all of your equipment before
you started didn't you?
You made certain that your BIOS does not need flashing prior to installation
of SP2 didn't you?

As for your question about the Umax scanner, what does Umax have to say?  If
there aren't any drivers for it that are known to work, you are out of luck.
The only Umax device I have owned bit the dust long before XP was
introduced; thus I certainly can't help here.

A new scanner had better come with drivers for SP2 else they will have a
hard time selling it.

Jim
