At the moment I have an 80 gig Hard Drive , split into 2 partitions.

C=60gig - partition 1 - currently running 'xp pro'
D=20gig - partition 2 - with the winME setup folders on it.

I have Windows XP Pro installed, on C, ( i repartitioned my 80 gig hard
drive into the 60/20 yesterday ) , and i have put windowsME on the 2nd
partition, NOT Installed, just the actual folders etc. with Setup.exe etc..

If I run the setup.exe file, I get the message that Operating System I am
trying to install  (winME) , is OLDER than my current 1 (xp pro ),  which
then just stops the setup ??
I think i have to do something with the BOOT.INI file ?? , but HOW WOULD I
INSTALL MY winME on this 2nd Psrtition, or do i need to start from scratch..
in stall winME on the C - partition , and xp on the 2nd partition (D) ?

HOW, ALSO, Do I get my PC to ask me which O/S I want to Use at Boot-Up ?

I would appreciate any Help on this, or any helpful URL's etc.. I have tried
googling etc. but i kinda get to a point that is out of my league when it
comes to pc's as i have only had 1 for 2 years.  Thanks a lot .

Hi Fred,

Assuming that you don't want to purchase and use a third-party partitioning
application.........

If your XP Pro partition is FAT32, then follow these instructions (provided
by Doug Knox MS-MVP) to install WINME on the second partition:
http://dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm
Since you have copied the setup files to D drive, when you boot from the
startup disk and are at the A: prompt, key in D:\Win9x\Setup

If your XP Pro partition is NTFS, then you will have to start from scratch,
reformatting and installing WINME on C and then XP Pro on D.

As for the bootloader that asks which OS you want to use, if you are able to
install WINME on the second partition, the "Repairing the Windows XP Boot
Loader" section in Doug Knox's instructions will assist you with this.  If
you end up starting from scratch, installing WINME first on the first
partition and then installing XP on the second partition, the boot loader
files will be installed/altered automatically during setup in order to
accomodate the two OSes.
