I have never seen a complete document on how to install XP [or any other
O/S].  I would like to keep a volume copy of the XP media on a network drive
and ideally, perform the installation remotely.  In addition, I would like to
be able to have the machine joined to the domain.  Guidance sought.

Did you ever look for 'a complete document on how to install XP [or any
other O/S].'?

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

Examples:
By CD/DVD...
http://unattended.msfn.org/

By network...
http://unattended.sourceforge.net/

Your other choice might be to create a universal image - but I think you
would get more flexibility with an unattended installation.

(See the WinXP Blog addition - imaging with universal image)

(More on building and ghosting a master image)

There is always RIS and BDD...

Hi Maurice

If you are running an Active Directory Domain it is easy. Just install
Remote Installation Services (RIS) as a Windows component on a Windows
200/2003 Server. Other Microsoft tools inculde Windows Deployment Services
(WDS) or Business Desktop Deployment Accelerator (BDD 2007). Just remember
that WDS and BDD will install XP, but was actually developed with Vista in
mind.
Al of these technologies is very well decribed in the Technet documentation.
Try this lin
