I want to update from my home edition to professional, is
there any special thing I need to do? I've already
purchased professional so can I just install it as if I'm
doing an upgrade?

You may upgrade XP Home to XP Pro easily.  First, disable your
antivirus software, insert the XP Pro CD, select the default "Upgrade"
option.  Afterward, visit the Windows Update site and download
the updates.  Be sure to perform a Desk Cleanup and defrag your
driver afterward.
