How can I access the old hd to retrieve pasword protected files of mine after
booting from the new hd which also has the same version of xp. My motherboard
crashed so I upgraded from the athlon xp 2000 processor to a new mb and the
AMD 6000+ x2 3gig processor but the new mb would not recognized the ide hd
with xp on it. I then installed a new sata raptor hd and installed xp on it
which booted fine then tried to access the old hd to retrieve my files
without success. The password is the same for both operating systems but the
new mb refuses to boot from the old drive and I cant access the old drive
after booting to the new drive. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks much

If youve booted to a SATA hd ok,& also have IDE hds, then youre BIOS is not
configured correctly.Usually in advanced chipset settings, integrated
periferals,
one must set to use both SATA & IDE,enhanced mode or similiar (read the
owners manual). Also,as with intel, they have a chipset installation utility
(AMD
must also) install it,as it updates the MB hardware to the OS.If all is
ok,go to
run, type:diskmgmt.msc  In msc if the IDE hd is listed,L.click on it,go to
actions,
all,select:make active

You wont be able to boot from the origonal HD without doing a repair install
of win, and loading chipset and other drivers supplied with your new mobo.
