is there anyway to remove startup items that slow down the pc on startup. I
have removed all un used progs from startup and in the registry from
localmachine...run and current user...run. but still it takes an age to start
up after logon. HD been defraged and registry errors corrected.
thanks

And if you use msconfig to disable all start ups, then reboot, accepting the
msg, how does it behave?
How much sys ram?
How much free space on C?

by disabling all startups, it still took 4 1/2 minutes for a usable desktop.
The main delay was after I clicked my identity on the logon screen. The other
identity on here is empty and unused.
I also have a wallpaper that appears just after identity is clicked at logon
but disappears before desktop appears. This was here before the startups
disabled but i cannot remove this image!!!!
thanks

Not free memory, but actual physical memory installed & do you have a
seperate graphics card?
Once again, msconfig, disable all startups, on Services Tab, hide all MS,
disable the rest.
Reboot & accept the msg
How is it now?

PS during this msconfig process any third party AV or Firewall will be
unavailable, so unless connected by a nat router you may want to physically
disconnect any internet access
