I had a virus attack and my hard disk was corrupted. I insetrted a windows 98
CD(as I had problem finding XP) and deleted C: partition. Now When I try
installing Win XP, in the startup sceen for installing it just shows
processing information file and the computer stops responsding. How can I
re-install Windows XP?

Not sure I understand fully what you are trying to say.  First - you say you
inserted a Windows 98 CD and deleted the C:\ partition with that because you
could not find your Windows XP CD.  Then you say 'When I try installing
Win[dows] XP...' <- which infers you have the Windows XP CD.

If so - when you boot from the CD and get to the point where you choose what
partition to install upon - DELETE the partition(s) you can safely delete
without losing data (which should have been backed up by now anyway) and
create new partition(s) for Windows XP to use and format them (not quick -
do a long format in this case to check the integrity of ther hard disk drive
hardware) and continue with the installation.

Hi Shenan,

Yes you are correct in your inference. The problem is that when I now try to
install Windows XP by installing the CD and restarting the PC {where the
first boot device is set to CDROM}, it at all does not go to the installation
screen. It says "processing informatioon file" and hangs up.  Had this not
been the case I too would as you suggested.
