CPU speed

I just installed 1 more GB of RAM into my Dell 8300. Now I have 2GBs of
DDR-400 in my PC. No I think it's DDR-3200 or a combination. Anyways, I've
been told now to speed up my CPU to take full advantage of the upgrade. I'm
in BIOS right now on my 8300, I'm using the HP 503n now, but the only options
are Normal and Compatible. What option should I use? Should I just leave it
on Normal or change it now to Compatible? Also is compatible faster or not?
Another question has to do with Hyper-Threading. It's disabled now, but
should I enable that?
Well lets just go with the first question if that's too much.

I changed it to Compatible and now it's taking forever to boot. I think I
better change it back to Normal CPU speed?
I'll wait for a response.
Yeah it's still booting. This is like 4 minutes now. Ok, I might have to
hard boot it but I'm scared to do that while it's booting after changing the
CPU speed. Ok, figures I'm lost now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Now I think I really did it. I monitor LED went to yellow and then back to
green and nothing is displaying now. I'm afraid to shut it down now.

Well it finally booted and my icons came up, one at a time though. and I'm
thinking Compatible is slower than Normal CPU speed from what I just saw and
how long it took to boot.
Ok, before I go back into BIOS and put it back to Normal CPU speed I'll
wait for someone's response.

Oh I don't believe it. I got fed up watching it boot and in the middle of my
icons appearing, they came up and then disappeared again, I hard booted it. I
know that can be fatal somtimes, but I gave it a shot and figured I was ready
for a new PC. Well I went back into BIOS and changed it back to Normal CPU
speed and it's working normally again. I think I lucked out.
Ok, thanks for nothing or something is on the way.

First - who told you taht you needed to 'speed up your CPU'?  Sounds like a
bunch of bunk to me.

Leave the CPU at normal.

I think anytime you mess with the CPU speed you better keep it off
Compatible and leave it on Normal speed. I found out almost the hard way. I
know messing around with your PC in the middle of a boot before it loads up
can be fatal or in the middle of a download.
