Had a similiar experience. I contacted Microsft and they
gave me another key code to enter.

Try repairing the registry entries for the activation .DLL files
Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll
Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll
Good luck

Ron,
I tried the repair on the registry entries, same results.
I rebooted and the system came up fine and the activation
message appeared in the tray. Clicking on it repeated the
same message, Windows is already activated, any other
ideas to try.
Thanks Ed

Try deleting the activation data files - wpa.dbl and wpa.bak - from
the \windows\system32 folder. Make sure you keep a backup copy of
these files "just in case".
Good luck
