I bought a previously used Compaq laptop with Windows XP.
The previous owner registered it with his name and
company. So under Documents and Settings is a folder with
his name. I would like to rename this folder but the
system will not let me. I suspect that I have to re-
register this machine in my name.

Any ideas?

Dave

Dave,

create a new user with your name.

Later you can remove the other old user. To do that you would
have to log on as administrator or with administrator rights.
