What is a "hot" install and what steps did you take to do one?

I am confused, since the activation message comes at the completion of XP
setup, how did you get the message to activate if XP stalled out before
completion?

Was there a specific error # listed?
Try removing all hardware cards and peripherals except the video, keyboard
and mouse. If setup completes, reinstall each device one at a time until you
find the problem.

If this is the case, you should perhaps stop any further experimentation wit
h recovery of the current XP installation and remove the cables, and install
XP or Win2K to a fresh hard drive. You can then connect the old drive as a
slave and retrieve important data.
