Upgrade XP Pro to clean HD with Win2K license?

My copy of WIN2K Pro contained makebt32.exe and makeboot.exe, plus images of
the boot diskettes; all this allowed me to install Win2K to a cleaned up HD
drive rather than trying to upgrade my copy of NT4.  I need to begin using
XP Pro now, and need to know if the upgrade version of XP Pro will allow me
to use my Win2K Pro license and install XP Pro to a wiped and reformated HD
as I did for Win2K.

Can anyone tell me yes or no on this?

Your phrasing has me confused.

You need a Windows XP license in order to install Windows XP.
However, if you are asking "Is it possible for me to use an UPGRADE version
of Windows XP to install cleanly on a machine?" then the answer is a
conditional "Yes".

The condition?  You have the CD for the OS that was previously installed on
the computer handy after you boot with the Windows XP CD or with the Windows
XP Setup Diskettes (downloadable from Microsoft.)

With the Upgrade, it should only ask for the disk (Win 2000) if you plan to install it on a reformmated drive.  After you insert the disk, the Setup will ask for the Win XP disk at a certain point.

Thanks for the info.  All I need is the upgrade version still.  That'll save
a few $$ when I can finally shovel my way out through the ice and snow and
into a software store...

Greetings --

No, of course not.  If you want to install WinXP, you'll need to
have a WinXP license.
