how I do ADD a line to the config.sys file?
I finally got my upgrade in this morning and one
essential MS-DOS based program needs the line "files=20"
to be added to the end of the config.sys file but I have
to do it manually. I don't have the program manual as
this software is 10+ yrs old but there is no other
software on the market with a free form database than can
import my existing db so I'm stuck using this age-old
program from Broderbund (who does not offer support or an
alternative to it)
Anyway, how can I get this done?

1. Open XP's "Help and Support" Program.
2. In the Search box type: CONFIG.NT , and hit enter.
2. Click on "Create custom startup files for an MS-DOS-based application".

Greetings --
WinXP doesn't use either AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. The empty
files are present simply to provide some backwards compatibility with
legacy applications.
To set environmental variables, Right-Click My Computer >
Properties > Advanced > Environment Variables > System Variables/New
(or Edit, as applicable). You can also add the appropriate line(s) to
C:\Windows\System32\Autoexec.nt and/or C:\Windows\System32\Config.nt.
