I have a question and hope someone can give me some advise.
One day last week while doing taxes on the wifes laptop {Gateway}it just
locked up, would not do anything at all. After shutting down the wrong way it
would work for a while and then do the same thing but would not connect to
internet. Called internet provider and they said it was showing I was
connected that maybe something was corrupt. Took to computer guy and he
removed Norton internet security and said it was ok. Brought home worked fine
and next day did same thing, except couple times I got the Blue screen of
death and could not read message it was so fast. I believe it may have said
something about a kernel error.
Took back to guy and he said I should dump and reinstall windows. I did. and
still have same problem. Sometimes it will work for hours but seems as if you
move it it wil crash. Also sometimes when I reatart I will get a black screen
that says something about checking broadcom device and cannot find a mac
address. Also sometimes it says it cant find an OS or Harddrive. May have to
start 4 or 5 times and then all seems fine until it does it again. Can any
one tell me what the heck is going on. I think when I move it it happens more
. Thanks

Sounds like the harddrive itself is bad.

A HD diagnostic can confirm that.
You should be able to download the diagnostic free from the website
of your harddrive mfg.

You should probably find another computer guy as he should have caught that

Thanks for the quick response.
I do know that some times when it is qoing to crash I do hear a click above
the harddrive and that is kinda what I was figuring . When and If I do
change it, will the disc I have from gateway work being it not an actual XP
disc and just a Gateway recovery Disc? Thanks

If you replace the drive with one of the same size...
the Gateway recovery disc should work fine.
