error notice on start up

When I start up my computer I have a wondows defender notice appear and it
asks me to start it up manually, how do I do this?

If you had installed Windows Defender last year onto a Windows XP PC,
you may need to remove it from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Windows Defender was a 'Beta" version last year and became a full
application Dec 2006 or Jan 2007.  The Beta version does not
automatically" get updated to the 'non-beta' version so as have to
remove it adn re-install the newer version.
