I have two XP pro PC's connected to a router which is connected to the
DSL modem. These two PCs can share files, the printer. and the
Internet connection
I do believe this is a peer to peer network
I connected a switch to one of the ports on the router.
I brought home my XP pro laptop from work and plugged it into the
switch and can use the Internet noprob as well.
But I want to share files and do not see the new computer when I open
network places on one of the original PCs, nor do I see either of the
other hosts when I look in network places on the new laptop.
The netwrk admin at work has this laptop configured for the office
network.
How to I add the laptop to my home network?
thanks

Why are you adding a switch, is the router only a 2-Port router?  If yes, why not
purchase a 4-Port router for approx $50.00 U.S..
Does the router have an uplink port?  If yes, this is the port the switch should be
plugged into.  However when plugged into the uplink port you will lose the use of
either the port next to it or the first port.

Check any firewall rules that may be blocking the laptop.
Check to make sure the laptop is in the same subnet and has an assigned IP for you
LAN, if you need to, set a static IP for the laptop .
