When I boot up my gateway  GT5228 pc xp pro keeps saying that it found new
hardware - when I look in the device manager it has a ? in the item Other
Devices - both the multimedia controller and the  multimedia video
controller. If I let the computer search for the drivers, it finds none.  I
have Nvidia GeForce 6100 and it shows up under display adapter; network
adapters shows Nvidia nForce networking controller; and Nvidia Network bus
enumerator; under Sound video and game controllers - I have audio codecs,
legacy aduio/video/; Media Control Devices, RRealteck High Def Audio and
video codecs (as well as 4 instances of Tunebite high-speed dubbing).

I've tried contacting gateway and they have been no help so far - I've
googled Nvidia thinking that the Other Device problem must be related to
that - downloaded and updated a GeForce 6100 update, but it still says it
finds new hardware each time I boot up. Can anyone help me figure out what
this Other Device is and how to fix it? After I click on cancel the search,
it says the hardware wasn't installed properly and may not work correctly -
but I don't really see any problems?

thanks
Pam

Did you uninstall a program just before this started ?

In device manager right click on the device and then left click on properties.

Go into the details tab.

Have a look through there and try googleing some of the device information.

Or paste various bits in here and I will try and help to identify.

Have you tried installing the latest chipset drivers?

if you still cant work out what it is then just disable it if its your
machine has no problems.
