Have a Gateway Tablet Laptop.  It has suddenly started asking for a User ID
and Password to login to Windows XP.  The word "Owner" appears in the User ID
slot.

Never set this up & it rejects all password.  Completely locked out of system.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Usually pressing the "enter key" will work if no password was created.
Otherwise, tap the F8 key on pc start, select safe-mode,enter xp as
administrator,
in xp,open user accounts & edit xp start.

Booted up in Safe Mode.  Still asks for the "Owner" login.  No entries for
the Password, including a blank entry, wosrk.  Still locked out.

Ran a virus scan from a bootable Symntec anti-virus  disk.

Started to re-install XP, but system says it cannot find the hard drive, yet
system will boot into Safe Mode.  Sounds like boot track is corrupted, but
can it be corrected?
