I have been trying to download and use Easy Transfer software to my XP
desktop so I can transfer files to a new laptop. I can download the program
but when I try to run it, I get the opening screen but when I click next,
nothing happens. Finally I have to use ctl/alt/del to get to task manager and
close the non responding program. Solutions?

Are you referring to Easy Transfer Companion? There's a difference between it
and Easy Transfer. Here's a quote from the article cited below:

[quote]
WETC is designed to transfer installed programs from one computer to another
computer. WETC does not transfer files, settings, or user profiles.

Note The Windows Easy Transfer program that is included with Windows Vista is
designed to transfer files, settings, and user profiles.

[end quote]

It appears that the Easy Transfer utility is only included in Windows Vista and
is not downloadable, but I may be wrong.
