xp says cd not installed

i did the device manager and it's not there. i went to the bios and it says
cd not installed.

what should i try next???

Check the cables and jumpers

If the bios still cannot detect it...may have just plain failed

thanks philo i guess from moving things around i never thought of the cables.
i unplugged cd and replugged and rebooted and it's there now.

It's probable that either your CD-ROM drive has died or perhaps the
connection is loose. If you are comfortable doing so, open up your computer
and check the connection between the CD-ROM and the motherboard, making sure
the cable is seated properly at both ends. Then try again to see if it is
seen by your BIOS and Device Manager. If not, the drive is probably dead.
Buy a new one.
