Sound device not working properly

After reformatting Windows XP, my sound device is not working (but it says
that it is fonctioning properly) no sound at all.

How to fix this I need help please.

Also cannot update Explorer 6 to Explorer 7 ???

Marie, if you formatted the hard drive and reinstalled WinXP you have to
replace the Drivers.  Sound being one of them.
  The Drivers should be on a CD that came with the Computer.
