Running WinXP Media Center 2005 with SP3.

When attempting to Unzip or run a RAR or WinAce file all cause a Error Pop
Up

that states the file is "Not a valid Win32 application".

I then right click the file and tell it to Open and same Error pops up.

BUT, can right click the same file and tell it to "Extract Here" or Extract
to with no problems.

Is there a fix for this troublesome error?

Thanks

I was getting that and just couldn't install anyvirus program. When I tried
to run it got that popup.
I'm afraid I bit the bullet and reformatted the Hard drive and all fixed so
far. Must have been a virus that I could just not find.
Hope this helps but it's a real pain to get everything back up and runnng
again. make sure you save all your "mustkeep" data before you start. I burnt
lots onto DvD's to make sure

When you do get it fixed and it is to your satisfaction, download and use
Acronis True Image - Make an image of your C: Drive, then if you get into
trouble again, all you have to do is to boot using the Acronis boot and bring
your image into play - that should take you all of 20 minutes.

By the way you will of course clear all the temp files and defrag Drive C:
before starting the make of the image.

Thanks to both.

But reformatting and re-install is not viable at this time. Will just put up
with the, existing method until 2009 and the new Windows comes along or
whatever.

At 80 years of age the above is the easiest.
