Hi, Yesterday my computer suggested I install the latest update, kb932823 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932823). The update is to fix a problem for those using IME, which happens to deny the ability downloading files using IE7. Although I do not use IE7, nor IME (I use the Latin alphabet) I decided to install the update. After that, I had problems with my Outlook (2002). I instructed Outlook to minimize to the System Tray. When I double click on Outlook, it appeared in my Task Bar, but if I select Outlook, it disappears from the Task Bar. So I decided to remove the update. This morning the update installed itself without my say so. Again I had to deinstall it. What can I do to not be pestered by this install? I do not need it, the document after the link I supplied at the start of my post suggest you would not need to install it, if you do not use IME. But it is really trying hard to get installed. Abel Abel kb932823 -This problem occurs if the Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) is the default keyboard layout. Did not this tell you the Hotfix was not for you? Uninstall the Update and then select Start, Control Panel, Automatic Updates uncheck Automatic and check "Notify me but don't automatically download or install". When notified commence the process by selecting Start, Help and Support, Keep your computer up-to-date with Windows Update and opt for a Custom install. -- Hope this helps. In answer to your question, no, the update did not mention the hotfix was not for me. And I do not have the feature selected that is needed for advanced text services (as suggested in the link I had in my original post). I think this is one of the strange things in the update process. I see Advanced Text Services is mentioned in the Workaround you can use if you do not want to install the Hotfix. From your post I take it you have solved the Windows Update problem. You can use an alternative browser to Internet Explorer but there are some tasks for which Internet Explorer is needed. I've had to uninstall the patch twice, and now I am set up for manual Windows updates. It is very frustrating.
